About Kate

Hi there! My name is Katharina, but you can call me Kate.

I’m the creative thinker behind this blog. I’m also an international project manager, business developer, avid storyteller and amateur photographer. Oh, and most recently a 2016 MBA Candidate!

Me in a nutshell

Hiking in Tenerife

I’m a travel addict with a passion for outdoor adventures, photography, communication and entrepreneurialism. I’m an idealist, self-proclaimed daydreamer and extremely introspective – I see life as a complex puzzle where everything is interconnected.

My brief love story with the World

I grew up in the Canary Islands (Spain) to a culturally diverse family of adventurers. Since completing my Masters in 2009, I have lived in Lausanne (Switzerland)Barcelona (Spain) and London (UK) – and will soon be calling Madrid (Spain) my home.

My career, while spanning across different functions and industries, has always focussed on complex international projects and cross-cultural communication. Over the past 6 years, it has taken me all over the Globe to places like Hong Kong, Cuba and Uruguay – as well as all major European and US cities. But besides being an eager business traveller, I’m also an adventurer at heart. I have trekked in Patagoniaclimbed the Great Wall of Chinahiked over 450km across Northern Spain and dived in Fernando de Noronha (Brazil) – to name just a few!

About Kate goes Global

Kate goes Global is where I share my personal impressions on the places I go and the adventures in life I experience as I strive to live intentionally.

My blog is my creative outlet: I love telling stories through my writing and photography! When I’m not writing about exploring new places (at home or while travelling), I share my thoughts on a broad variety of topics such as taking risks, overcoming challenges and living abroad.

While this blog is certainly my personal archive of ideas and experiences, it is mostly a platform that creates connections between like-minded people through travel and exploration.

Not sure where to start?

Oh, wait, you want to know more?

Things I love

Lavaux, Switzerland

Sunny days. The colour turquoise. Flat whites. Cobblestone streets. Cats. Vineyards. Wine. Silk (though I try to avoid having the two together). Hiking. Fresh cut grass. Psychological thrillers. Mangoes. Creativity. Gin & Tonics. Spreadsheets (nerd alert). Sketching buildings. Unplugging. Hammocks. Sharing ideas. Cheese boards. Instagram. Loud laughs. Lavender. Creating connections. Deserted beaches. Ginger & Lime. Positive psychology. Entrepreneurship.

Things I believe in

Living abroad can benefit your career. You don’t have to quit your job to travel. The things we see every day are the things we never see at all. We have to live less out of habit and more out of intent. We acquire more confidence by taking risks and be willing to face failure. Comparison is the thief of joy. Everybody has a creative gift worth sharing. Self-created busyness is an illness. There are many benefits to waking up early (I just seem to forget them when my alarm rings in the morning). It’s worth investing in experiences over things. Traveling solo is one of the best gifts you can give yourself. No guts, no glory.

And now the legal bit.

All pictures on this blog are copyright of Kate goes Global and taken by me (unless otherwise noted). I use my Fujifilm FinePix S9600, Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W290 and Canon EOS 70D most of the time, and occasionally post photos taken from my iPhone 5 or scanned pictures of my Lomo Diana F+. Please ask for permission before using and/or distributing these photos and always provide a link and citation back to the image.

This blog is my hobby, not my business. I do not make a living out of it. I am happy to review relevant products by invitation, but will make my own mind up on whether to recommend them or not. I will always let my readers know if I got a free sample, meal or stay at the end of the post. Being this a non-commercial site, my integrity comes first.

  1. Hi! I found your blog on the latest WordPress post and have really enjoyed the posts I’ve read. I am an expat living in Phuket, Thailand with my husband and 3 year old daughter. We all love traveling as well. I look forward to getting to know you through your posts! Have a great day!

  2. I clicked Recommended Blogs for me on wordpress and your blog was among top three. A bit surprised to know that you didn’t opt to place ads on your page unlike most of others. Nice blog by the way.

  5. Hi Katherina,

What a wonderful site you have! I’m inspired by how you’ve managed to live in so many different places in a short amount of time! I think your story adds a different (and much needed) perspective since you’re showcasing how to factor in travel whilst still holding down a dayjob! Travelling full-time is inspiring but it’s equally inspiring to see you balancing both travel and work! 😀 I don’t think the latter gets enough coverage sometimes in the blogging world!

Settling in to read your archives now! Thanks for sharing your journey (:

  6. Hi Katherina,

Love your travel blog! You should drop by the Caribbean sometime and enjoy some warm sun and pristine beaches! Btw, do you accept guest posts on your travel blog, if you do, drop me a line! Meanwhile, keep living your dream!
    Love, Evy

  7. Your blog is one of my favorite wine & chocolate kind of night reads. I’ve particularly enjoyed your London posts because I’m thinking about moving there one day (I’m in the US now but I have a German passport so the move would be easy). Your style of writing makes me want to explore the world more.
Great posts Katherina! Keep it up!
